Why BIOCANNA?

BIOCANNA fertilizers are organic in composition and were developed specially for cultivation in soil and potting mixes. Plants and crops grown with BIOCANNA fertilizers can be called organic, provided that they are grown in accordance with organic standards. CANNA protects the production process from sourcing raw materials to presenting the final product, so you are guaranteed the best result. Quality prooves itself!

BIOCANNA nutrients are vegetable-based and do not contain any residual animal materials. The nutrients are well-tuned to the plant's needs.

History of Farming

Farming started 12,000 years ago, at the end of the last ice age. The increasingly warmer climate enabled people to start growing crops for themselves and to stay at one location for a longer period of time. This made it possible to finally move on from the insecure lifestyle of hunting and collecting, resulting in the first civilizations (Syria, Mexico and China). Obviously people realized that a plant grew better when you mixed fertilizers through the soil, but the reason why was unknown. Back then we did not know anything about nutritional elements.

Through experimental research in 1838 Justus von Liebig showed the relationship between nutritional elements and plant growth. Eventually this has led to the introduction of fertilizers; a true revolution in farming. The use and working of the elements NPK was applied with variable success. Nitrogen (N) was obtained from coal tar. Phosphorus (P) could be obtained from bones. Potassium (K) was found as raw material in the mines of Chile and India.

Nowadays everyone knows N, P and K are the basic elements for applying fertilization in farming.

What is Organic Farming?

Modern farming practices contributed enormously to people's prosperity. Unfortunately, there's also a downside such as deterioration of soil quality and the environment. Organic practices have offered a new way of farming, often based on historic methods.

The aim of organic farming is to produce in a sustainable way and in harmony with nature. Organic practices center around using only organic-approved materials, biodiversity, and soil health.

Growing Organically

Fertilizers from vegetable or animal origin are called organic fertilizers. An advantage of organic fertilizers over synthetic fertilizers is that they bring organic material into the soil, which leads to an improvement of the soil's structure. This is better for the environment because there is less washing out of minerals and improved water absorption.

A healthy soil with immediately-absorbable and bound minerals requires a lot of attention in organic farming and is closely connected to the three principles on which biological farming is based.

Organic fertilizers, however, may still contain animal substances - something that the conscious organic grower prefers to avoid. BIOCANNA nutrients are vegetable-based and do not contain any animal residual product. The main advantage of this is that the product's composition is much better tuned to the plant's needs.
